Long Island

Long Island is an island of the Andaman Islands.

The village is spread out on the western side of the island within a good walking distance of the boat jetty, and you have to walk: there are no cars or rickshaws, only narrow concreted paths if you are lucky. Much of the island is forested and unexplored, and not even mapped: even the police do not have an accurate map of the island!

Getting around is limited to the village near the Jetty, a walk on the beach or a trek to Lalaji Bay.

Barren Islands

Barren Island is an island located in the Andaman Sea. It is the only confirmed active volcano in the Indian subcontinent and the only active volcano along a chain of volcanoes from Sumatra to Myanmar.

Barren Island

India’s only confirmed active volcano is located in Barren Island. This island, which lies on the seismically active tectonic plates, no one is allowed to disembark. Barren Island is a craggy rocky island, about 3 km in diameter, and the volcano last erupted here in 1991 and then again in 1994-95. This cruise is an exhilarating experience as your ship cuts through the vast expanse of the sea. Sit at the bow of the ship in deckchairs to catch the first sight of this tropical paradise with its smoking volcano!  This place is uninhabited by humans, earning it its name. Visiting permits are required from the Forest Department.
